"Here is where the work of the Holy Ghost comes in. After your baptism, you are baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. You are raised up out of the water to live henceforth in newness of life, to live a new life. You are born unto God. And you stand under the sanction and the power of the three holiest beings in heaven who are able to keep you from falling. You are to reveal that you are dead to sin. Your life is hid with Christ in God. When I feel oppressed and hardly know how to relate myself toward the work that God has given me to do, I just call upon the three great worthies and say, You know I cannot do this work in my own strength. You must work in me and by me and through me, sanctifying my tongue, sanctifying my spirit, sanctifying my words, and bringing me into a position where my spirit shall be susceptible to the movings of the Holy Spirit of God upon my mind and character."

  Personal Application

Reflect & Apply

The Holy Spirit is not a power for you to use — He is a divine Person who wants to use you. This section invites you to examine your relationship with each member of the Godhead and to open yourself to being led, filled, and directed by the Holy Spirit.

1

Examine Your View of the Holy Spirit

Many believers unconsciously treat the Holy Spirit as a power source — something to be tapped into for miracles, emotional experiences, or ministry success. But the Holy Spirit is a divine Person with a mind, a will, and feelings. He is not your servant; you are His.

Have you been thinking of the Holy Spirit as some power that you can use, instead of as a divine being that can use you?
How have you tried to use the Holy Spirit — in prayer, in ministry, in daily decisions?
How have you obeyed or disobeyed Him when He wanted to use you? Think of a specific moment when you felt His prompting and either followed or ignored it.
What attitude will you cherish toward the Holy Spirit from now on?

"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own." — 1 Corinthians 6:19

2

Learn to Pray to All Three Divine Beings

All blessings come from the Father, who is the one true God, through the Son (who is the one Lord), by the Holy Spirit, and all thanksgiving returns to the Father through the Son, by the Holy Spirit. Any prayer that is not seasoned by the Son and the Holy Spirit is rejected by the Father, because the Son and the Holy Spirit are both directly related to Him, just like Eve and Seth were directly related to Adam. There is no other way for man to access God. Any means other than the Holy Spirit or Jesus Christ used to pray to God would actually channel the prayers to demons or Satan.

The Father

Jesus taught us to pray "Our Father." Come to Him as a child — with dependence, trust, and reverence. He knows what you need before you ask. Pray: "Father, I come to You in Jesus' name…"

The Son

Jesus is our High Priest who intercedes for us. He is the way to the Father. Pray to Him directly as Savior, Lord, and Friend. Pray: "Lord Jesus, I ask You to…"

The Holy Spirit

The Spirit is your Comforter, Teacher, and Sanctifier living inside you. Ask Him to fill you, lead you, use you, and produce His fruit in you. Pray: "Holy Spirit, I yield to You today…"

3

Yield to Be Used

The key question is not "How can I use the Spirit's power?" but "Holy Spirit, how do You want to use me today?" The disciples at Pentecost were not operators of divine power — they were vessels who had emptied themselves and waited. The Spirit used them mightily because they yielded completely.

This week, begin each morning with this simple prayer of surrender:

"Holy Spirit, I acknowledge You as a divine Being. I do not come to use You — I come to be used by You. Fill me, lead me, speak through me, and stop me when I am going the wrong way. I am Yours today."

Watch carefully throughout the day for His promptings — to speak a word, to hold your tongue, to pray for someone, to turn away from temptation. Each time you obey, you build a deeper and more sensitive relationship with Him.

"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God." — Romans 8:14
